Peacock:My dream project

Until I saw rimzim threads I have no idea to work on peacock designs. I bought different colour threads but waiting for the suitable designs. once I requested in indusladies (an online community) there came a plenty of lovely designs from my friends which made  me more confusing as to which designs to select.
Finally fixed this design and studied many peacock embroidery done by others on net and also studied the photoes.

Roughly five colours of rinzim threads are used for feathers.  for peacock's body I have used 16 shades of silk thread. And I have used more than 20 stitches  in this project. For peacock's neck I have used stem stitch. The other stitches are chain stitch, broken chain stitch, detached chain stitch, open chain stitch, long n short, manipuri sttich, french knots, buttonhole stitch, bullion rose, tailed pearl knots, fern sttich, double chain stitch, herringbone, Portuguese knotted, open fish bone, leaf stitch, double feather,3 types of chemanthi variation, oyster stitch, tailed oyster stitch, S knots, lavangam etc..

I did this peacock for my niece. One peacock on kurthi and feathers here and there on the top and for sleeves.

Design for you

Here I am posting a design for you. This design can be used for lavangam work. We can use buttonhole stitch as well.

Applique kalamkari saree

I have used kalamakri paintings for my kanchi cotton saree. I have used small designs all along the border and two big motifs to fit on the pallu part. I have used neem zari thread to do chain stitch and blanket stitch.

Applique work with kalamkari paintings

This is short top on which i have used kalamkari hand paintings for applique work.
kalamkari painting is a beautiful art from Andhra pradesh. It is a very old traditional art where the artist follow traditional way of using and methods. Kalam means pen and kari means work. It is very old traditional art of sri kalahasthi which is 45 kms from Tirupati and about 100kms from chennai. Unlike other centres of kalamkari, the artists still use the same old techmique of using natural dyes and pens to draw.

Pachis stitch2

In my another project I chose pachis work again but it was for me. The saree was a tusser silk. And I have chosen temple design to go well with the border of the saree.

Pachis work

This is pachis work which almost look like a chiken scratch stitch. I have dome this stitch on my mom's silk saree. Worked on a small border to fit between the two lines of the border. Worked on full pallu too.

Lavangam Work

In telugu pistil stitch is familiar with the name lavangam work. Lavangam is clove in telugu. I have tried many more stitches to make lavangam stitch. Here in this project I have used pistil stitch aka tailed french knots.
The project is on a cotton short kurthi. I have used 4 strands of silk thread for pistil stitch.

Simple Embelishments

I have worked on a pure silk saree with antique kundans and little embroidery to give the saree a grand look. The other one is a simple work on a kurthi.

Chemanthi Stitch variations

I love flowers, any flowers, all flowers, need not to say chrysanthemums are my favourite flowers. This love towards chrysanthemums made me to try different stitches to make the stitch looks like them. So here are my trials. Pictures were old and so the poor quality. Will try to stitch again and post them.

Chemanthi Stitch 2

Need not to say I worked on various projects with chemanthi stitch. In this project I have worked on crepe material for my daughter(yellow). And the other one is on pure silk material for my niece.

Chemanthi Stitch

Oh!! how much this stitch circulated on internet!!!..(big grin)
It came to my notice that someone published the book  in the name of Indian embroidery. As usual no credit to to the original publishers who introduced the different stitches!!. How disgusting it will be is itn't?
Chementhi is a telugu name for chrysanthemum flowers and the stitch looks like flower so the name.
My neighbor Aunt teach the stitch and no need to say it my ever favourite one.
The dress is a poly cotton double shaded kurthi. I worked with double shades silk thread with 2 strands.

Net Knots

Net knots is one more interesting filling stitch which is almost similar to that of net work. It is nothing but one more variation of buttonhole  stitch. The stitch resembles the net and knot adds beauty to the stitch.  I called it as net knots as no one knew the name of the stitch when i learnt it from others. Since then it is familiar with the name 'net knots.'  I enjoy the stitch very much.
An Italian pure crepe saree is stitched in to kurthi set for my daughter. I did work on pyjama too up to the knee length since the top is short.

For stems I have used pearl stitch but stitched them little apart. For leaves I have used long and short for small leaves and chemanthi stitch for the other leaves. different shapes of kundans are used as embelishment.

Bullion Stitch

I know you all know the lovely roses done with bullion stitch. Here I have used this stitch to fill thebig petals.
We also call the stitch  as spring kuttu(kuttu is stitch in telugu) as the stitch looks like spring. The ready jardosi also looks like spring so some people here in Andhra call it as spring kuttu.

This is the project I have done on a silk saree. There are total 5 big bunches on the saree..2 for pallu, 2 for the pleats and 1 for the shoulder part. And I have done 20 single flowers, 2 for the sleeves of saree blouse. To give the good shades for the flowers and leaves i have used 12 shades of silk thread. Bullions are done with 2 strands of silk thread. For leaves I have used single strand of  double shaded thread and the stitch is done with long and short stitch. In the project I have used lavangam work, pearl stitch  stem stitch  and french knots.

Net work..vala kuttu

Vala kuttu is nothing but the variation of buttonhole stitch. Vala is net in telugu language. The stitch looks like net so the name.
Here i have worked on a kameez which is crepe material. The design starts from the vest of the kameez and ends on the opposite shoulder.
