Woven cross stitch & German Knotted Buttonhole Stitch: Kurthi

Stitch in blue is woven cross stitch. It is also called diagonally woven cross stitch.
I have used anchor cotton thread in this project.
Stitch in yellow for leaves is German knotted buttonhole stitch.
The other stitches are stem stitch, long& short and lazy daisy stitch.
Three bunches are worked diagonally from the bottom of the kurthi.
one bunch on the back neck.

Cretan and Knotted cretan Stitch

Along with my blogger friend Leela I tried knotted cretan stitch and later did a project on my daughter's dress. I changed a little bit of knotted cretan stitch unlike the regular one.
The dress had prints on it with flowers and leaves which were best suited for cretan stitch.
So I did knotted cretan stitch for leaves and cretan stitch for leaves. Threads are cone threads.
How did you like it!!?

Herringbone stitch:saree

I have worked herringbone stitch for my fancy saree and on my mom's silk saree.
On my saree I worked only motifs.

Tutorial: Shisha work2

In my earlier post i have posted one simple way of stitching mirrors. Now I am showing you one more simple way of stitching mirrors.

Placing the mirror on the fabric mark the outline.
Remove the mirror and work chain stitch  all along the outline. Stick the mirror with fabric glue in the outline you drawn. Let allow the glue to dry.

Bring up the needle from one corner of the mirror.
Pass the needle in the loop of the chain. Work detached buttonhole stitch all along the chain stitch on all the four sides.

In the second row pass the needle twice the loop of the preceding layer of the loops formed by the detached buttonhole stitch.

Complete all the four sides.
# You can skip the loops if the loops are very close.

Depending on the mirror size you can work one more layer of net knots.

Slide the needle under the netknots and anchor the thread.

Here completed the mirror/shisha work.
In this tutorial I have used cone thread.

You can work the same way for round mirrors too.

In this sampler I have used 2 layers of silk threads.

Tutorial: Shisha work

Here I am posting simple way of doing shisha embroidery.  In my tutorial I have used square mirror. In the same way you can stitch  round mirrors too.

Stick the mirror to the fabric with fabric glue and let it allow for couple of minutes to dry. This avoids the mirror from slipping from your hands while stitching. Once you master the shisha work you can skip this step.
Take anchor cotton thread to stitch the mirror.
Bring up the needle at point 1 and down at point 2.
Again bring up the needle at point 3. Now slide the needle under both the threads(where the + shape is formed) so that knot is formed.

 Again bring the thread to the other side and slide under the threads and make a knot.

  Like this make knots on all four sides so that the mirror is fixed firmly. This is the foundation stitch.
 #. Foundation stitches should be very tight

Now poke the needle just below the mirror and slide under the foundation thread and bring it over the foundation thread.

 Then Bring down the needle and stitch one back stitch just next where you poked the needle below the mirror.
#.Dont pull the thread very tight.
One shisha stitch is completed.

 Again slide the needle under the foundation stitch, bring it down and stitch a back stitch very next to the first  back stitch.

This way stitch all the four sides of the mirror.
To anchor the thread, slide down the needle under all the thread and bring down under the fabric.

You can embellish more with kundans/stones or combine it with other stitch.
In my project I combine shisha work with long and short stitch flowers.
On my saree I fix the mirrors with rimzim thread.
